Nosey Cow

Droplets of melted snow linger on Brittany's nose as she investigates the camera Thursday afternoon at the Goldsworthy Farm . The Ashire cow was not bothered by the snow on her chin or the cold temperatures.

Droplets of melted snow linger on Brittany's nose as she investigates the camera Thursday afternoon at the Goldsworthy Farm . The Ashire cow was not bothered by the snow on her chin or the cold temperatures.

I went looking for enterprise weather shots yesterday. Occasionally I’ll drive – looking for people, pretty scenery or anything else that jumps out, but its usually best to have a plan. I’d driven by the Goldsworthy Farm in Lafayette a few times on the way to a friend’s house so I headed there first to see if the animals were out.

The owner introduced me to the animals – Oliver the Donkey, Bob the Goat, Brittany the Cow and Buddy the Steer. They were all very friendly and wanted to inspect the camera with their noses. Bob mostly wanted to eat my coat.

The animals weren’t phased by the temperature, which was around 20 degrees at that point, and chose not to go into the barn. Apparently they like to stay out unless there is a strong wind. At one point I knelt down to get a shot of the steer and a weight settled on my shoulder. — Oliver’s head was resting there.

I thought you all might enjoy the story behind the picture.
